Identity
Shower Power USA Music Ministry (SPMM) is a male Christian acappella ministry rooted in faith, brotherhood, musical excellence, and a passion for proclaiming the Gospel through song.
Our Mission
To spread the Word of God, proclaim the message of salvation, and inspire faith, hope, love, and spiritual transformation through gospel music, worship, evangelism, Christian fellowship, and compassionate service to humanity.
Shower Power Music Ministry seeks to use music as an instrument to touch hearts, uplift souls, encourage believers, reach the lost, and lead people into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
We believe that the Gospel must not only be preached through songs and words but also demonstrated through practical expressions of love, kindness, compassion, generosity, and service.
Our ministry therefore embraces both spiritual outreach and humanitarian service, seeking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals, families, and communities.
Our Vision
To be a Christ-centered international music ministry that transforms lives through gospel music, wins souls for Christ, nurtures Christian faith, promotes unity, and demonstrates God's love through compassionate service to humanity.
We envision a world in which gospel music becomes a channel of spiritual awakening, hope, healing, fellowship, and positive social change.
Guided by faith and motivated by the love of Christ, we aspire to serve communities across generations and nations while remaining faithful to our spiritual calling.
Our Motto
“Working for the Lord and not for man”
Our motto expresses our belief that music can be a powerful instrument for sharing the Gospel, encouraging spiritual growth, and influencing the world through Christian values.
Through every song, performance, outreach initiative, and act of service, we seek to reflect the love of Christ and leave a lasting spiritual impact.
Our Ministry Objectives
To proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through a cappella singing, praise, worship, and musical performances that glorify God, strengthen faith, encourage spiritual growth, and bring hope to individuals and communities.
To use gospel music as a means of evangelism, reaching people from all walks of life with the message of God's love, grace, forgiveness, and salvation while encouraging them to accept Christ and grow in their faith.
To comfort the discouraged, strengthen the weary, inspire the hopeless, and encourage individuals facing life's challenges through music that communicates God's promises, faithfulness, and unfailing love.
To engage in charitable activities that address the needs of vulnerable individuals and families, including providing food, clothing, educational materials, financial assistance, and other essential resources to those in need.
To reach underserved and disadvantaged communities through outreach programs, community support initiatives, charitable donations, and practical assistance that improves lives and restores dignity.
To demonstrate Christ's compassion by supporting widows, orphans, older adults, people living with disabilities, struggling families, and other vulnerable members of society through appropriate charitable and community initiatives.
To bring people together across different backgrounds, cultures, and generations through gospel music and Christian fellowship, fostering peace, unity, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to serving God and humanity.
To participate in initiatives that promote education, health awareness, youth empowerment, moral development, and other community-building activities that contribute to the well-being and advancement of society.
To identify, develop, and encourage gospel music talent, particularly among young people, while promoting discipline, integrity, humility, teamwork, and the responsible use of God-given gifts for ministry and service.
To minister to people experiencing grief, loneliness, illness, emotional distress, or difficult circumstances through uplifting songs, prayer, spiritual encouragement, and Christian fellowship.
To encourage individuals and families to embrace biblical principles, including honesty, kindness, forgiveness, generosity, compassion, and love for one another, making a positive impact within the church and the wider community.
To ensure that the ministry's mission extends beyond church services and musical performances by putting faith into action and responding to practical needs wherever possible, in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
To collaborate with churches, charitable organizations, community leaders, individuals, and other faith-based groups in carrying out evangelistic, philanthropic, and humanitarian initiatives that advance the Gospel and improve lives.
Our Commitment
Shower Power Music Ministry USA is committed to serving God wholeheartedly, sharing the Gospel faithfully, developing musical gifts responsibly, and extending compassion to those in need.
We seek to ensure that our ministry is expressed through both worship and service: through the songs we sing, the lives we touch, the communities we serve, and the faith we demonstrate in action.
Our commitment is to remain grounded in biblical principles, united in purpose, and dedicated to using our God-given gifts for His glory.
As we continue to grow across generations and international boundaries, we remain committed to the vision that gave birth to Shower Power in 1992.
“Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.”
“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”
Our History
The history of Shower Power began before the formal establishment of the group. According to the ministry's historical account, the name was associated with Sikumbuzo Nxumalo and the late Sipho Ndlovu, uncle of Don Gumbo.
Emerging from the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Zimbabwe, Shower Power has grown from a small group of young men united by their love of music into a ministry whose influence extends across generations and international borders.
Since its establishment in 1992, Shower Power has used music as a vehicle for evangelism, spiritual encouragement, worship, and transformation. Its journey reflects perseverance, fellowship, dedication, and the enduring power of Christian service.
Around 1990, the name circulated among musical groups, including Lighthouse Ensemble, which briefly used it. Two smaller groups emerging from Lighthouse Ensemble became known as Shower Power 1, a quartet, and Shower Power 2, a quintet. Although these groups were short-lived, they helped keep the name alive.
In 1992, members associated with Shower Power 2 — Brian, Venus, Simba, Munyaradzi, Charles, Clyde, and Uthand — revived the vision of establishing a male vocal group.
During their search for a permanent identity, the members adopted the name BVSMCCU, derived from their initials. As membership changed, however, the name became difficult to maintain. The group subsequently experimented with the name Bright Age 7 before returning to the name that had captured their imagination from the beginning.
Inspired by a sermon, the members embraced the name Shower the Holy Ghost Power, reflecting their desire to serve God and communicate the Gospel through music.
Their founding Scripture was Colossians 3:23, which calls believers to work wholeheartedly as though serving the Lord rather than people. This principle helped establish the spiritual foundation of the ministry.
By 1993, the group had established a more consistent membership comprising Brian, Munyaradzi, Nqobile, Simba, Tidings, and Venus.
During this period, Shower Power recorded its first cassette album, Experience. The recording marked an important milestone, introducing the members to the realities of the music industry while encouraging them to explore original compositions and develop their distinctive a cappella sound.
Songs associated with this early creative period included:
These compositions reflected the group's desire to unite vocal harmony with meaningful Christian messages.
In 1994, Abbishai joined the group following Tidings' departure. The following year, the group recorded its second album, Time Has Run Out. With sponsorship from Thabani Lloyd Hove, the album was released in 1996.
This was another defining milestone in the ministry's development. Shower Power was gaining recognition and helping bring a cappella gospel music to a wider audience in Zimbabwe.
As the group's musical identity developed, its ministry expanded beyond singing.
The Shower Power Quartet became part of the broader musical initiative, featuring guest baritone Shepherd Dhlamini. During this period, Shower Power Ministries also emerged, with preachers Ralph Black, Taurai Mpita, and later Trevor Marufu contributing to its spiritual outreach.
Wilmo and Shepherd Khumalo also spent time with the group, particularly during its travels to Botswana and South Africa.
These developments demonstrated that Shower Power's vision extended beyond musical performance. The ministry sought to serve through song, preaching, fellowship, testimony, and evangelism.
Like many enduring musical groups, Shower Power experienced changes in membership as individuals pursued different opportunities and responsibilities.
In 1997, Brian and Nqobile departed, and Mandikudza and Bright joined the group. Following Munyaradzi's departure, Thabo became part of the lineup in 1999.
By May 2000, Venus and Simba had left for the United States, marking the end of the original membership era and ushering in a new generation led by Mandikudza and Abbishai. Abbishai remained with the group until 2004.
These transitions did not end the ministry's journey. Instead, they demonstrated its ability to adapt, renew its membership, and carry its founding vision into a new era.
“Their founding Scripture was Colossians 3:23, which calls believers to work wholeheartedly as though serving the Lord rather than people.”
With Gratitude
Shower Power's development between 1993 and 2000 was supported by numerous churches, organizations, pastors, musicians, mentors, managers, sponsors, and friends.
The ministry gratefully acknowledges the following organizations and fellowships.
First Manager
Lungile Ncube served as the group's first manager, while Thabani Lloyd Hove's sponsorship helped make the release of Time Has Run Out possible.
In Appreciation
We recognize these contributions with gratitude. Shower Power's story is not only the story of its singers, but also of the wider community that supported and believed in its vision.
Pioneer Members: 1992–2000
The following individuals are identified in the ministry's historical account as having been members of Shower Power at various times between 1992 and 2000.
Each member contributed to the evolving story of the ministry, helping shape its music, fellowship, identity, and legacy.
The Legacy Continues
The years following 2000 ushered in a new chapter of growth, renewal, and wider recognition. Through successive generations of membership, Shower Power continued developing its musical identity while remaining committed to Christian service.
According to the ministry's account, its history encompasses ten generations of membership, reflecting a legacy sustained by successive groups of vocalists.
Although Shower Power remains rooted in Zimbabwe, its alumni and former members have established lives and careers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other parts of the world.
Their journeys reflect the far-reaching influence of a ministry that began with a shared vision among young men who wanted to dedicate their musical gifts to God.
Shower Power's recording journey began with Experience, followed by Time Has Run Out. These early albums laid the foundation for a growing repertoire of gospel music that would reach new audiences and generations.
Songs such as I'll Run and Mvura are also associated with the ministry. Together, these recordings reflect Shower Power's commitment to combining expressive vocal arrangements with messages of hope, faith, worship, and Christian living.
Shower Power has taken its ministry beyond Zimbabwe, reaching audiences through international engagements, particularly in the United States.
One notable milestone was its participation in the 2005 Seventh-day Adventist General Conference Session, a significant gathering within the worldwide Adventist Church.
The group has also shared platforms with internationally recognized gospel musical acts, including Take 6, and has participated in events such as the AZANA Camp Meetings.
These opportunities have introduced Shower Power's music to wider audiences and contributed to its identity as a distinctive voice in Christian a cappella music. The ministry's international journey demonstrates how music can cross geographical and cultural boundaries while communicating a message of faith, hope, and salvation.
As former members established themselves abroad, the vision that began in Zimbabwe continued to inspire new initiatives. Out of this heritage emerged Shower Power USA, an extension of the original passion for a cappella music and Christian evangelism.
Established by alumni and former members, Shower Power USA seeks to preserve the legacy established in Zimbabwe while extending the ministry's music and message to new communities and generations.
Although members may live in different countries and serve in different capacities, they remain connected by a shared history, a commitment to musical excellence, and a desire to glorify God through song.
Shower Power USA represents a continuation of the founding vision: a reminder that a ministry can grow beyond its original home without losing sight of its spiritual purpose.
A Legacy That Lives On
More than three decades after its founding, Shower Power Music Ministry USA remains a testament to the power of faith, unity, perseverance, and dedication. Its journey encompasses the uncertainty of its earliest days, the search for a lasting name, the excitement of its first recordings, the challenges of the music industry, the departure and arrival of members, and the opportunities that carried its music beyond Zimbabwe.
Above all, this is a story of ministry sustained across generations. From the pioneers who helped establish the group's identity to the members who continued its work into the twenty-first century, each generation has contributed to a legacy that reaches beyond individual performances and recordings.
From the USA to the world, the ministry continues to lift its voice in faith, harmony, and praise, sharing God's love through song and demonstrating His compassion through service.
